Reports - Pickwick Lake
The lower
end of Pickwick Lake is just waiting for someone to break the
Mississippi state record at just 8 lbs 6 oz on 17 lb line class
record. Pickwick Lake runs from Wilson Dam at Florence into
Tennessee at Pickwick Dam; this 47,500 plus acre reservoir has
a tremendous smallmouth fishery that is nationally known for
its trophy size fish. The largemouth population is on a tremendous
rise over the last 3 years mainly due to the amount of hydrilla
and multifoil grass that is providing great cover for the smaller
fry during their growth period. The grass starts around the
Seven Mile Island area and runs all the way to Pickwick Dam.
Many bass tournaments held on Pickwick Lake have produced several
winning stringers of big 5-8 lbs largemouth bass, including
the FLW and Everstart series tournaments.
Many of
the larger creeks feeding Pickwick Lake have large amounts of
grass cover including Coffee Slew, Second Creek, Bear Creek,
Panther Creek, Indian Creek and Yellow Creek. Sam's lure choice
for grass fishing is large spoons, spinner baits, rattle traps,
big jigs and big plastic senkos or 10" worms. Fish these
lures around some of the numerous grass patches and you will
find that winning stringer of fish.
